For Immediate Release: Apartment Fire in Clifton Contained by Quick Response

On September 30, 2025, at approximately 10:59 a.m., the Clifton Fire Protection District (CFPD) was dispatched to the 500 block of 32 1/8 Road for reports of smoke and flames coming from an apartment in a large complex.

CFPD responded with Engine 21, Ambulance 21, and Ambulance 22. Due to reports of heavy flames and a possible occupant inside the apartment, a request for assistance was made to the Grand Junction Fire Department (GJFD). GJFD responded with two engines and a ladder truck to assist.

Upon arrival, Engine 21 found heavy smoke and flames coming from a single unit. Crews quickly initiated fire suppression efforts, stopping the progression of the blaze and achieving a knockdown before flames spread to adjacent apartments. The affected apartment sustained significant fire damage, but the fire did not extend to other units.

GJFD crews assisted with a search of the fire-damaged apartment and nearby units. One dog was found deceased inside the apartment. A cat was rescued and transported by the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office to a local animal hospital for treatment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

CFPD thanks Grand Junction Fire Department and Mesa County Sheriff's Office for their assistance during the incident.
